Eugene Harry Barnes was born on February 16, 1935, in South Dakota, to Harry and Gertrude (Wentland) Barnes. As a young child, he moved with his parents to Pipestone where he grew up and graduated from High School. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and later served in the U.S. Air Force. Gene worked as an accountant for the Pipestone Auction Market, however most of his career was driving truck for the family business, Barnes Trucking in Pipestone. In 1985, he moved to Marshall where he finished his career as a computer programmer. Gene was a highwayman, he enjoyed travelling down the road whether in a truck or on a motorcycle. He also enjoyed reading, watching t.v., dancing and spending time with his coffee friends at Mikeâs Café. Gene was most passionate about his family, especially his grandchildren.
He died unexpectedly at his residence in Marshall on Thursday, January 5, 2012. Survivors include his children Doreen (and Kelly) Hasner of Clever, MO, Michelle Cody of Tulsa, OK, Kolleen (and Mike) Chalmers of St. Louis Park, Crystal (and Darnell) Anderson of Faribault, Bradley Barnes of Marshall, April (and Dan) Loock of Redwood Falls, grandchildren Benjamin Hasner, Ryan Deuel, Megan Chalmers, Tanner Anderson, Cassandra Loock (and fiancé, Andrew), Montana Anderson, Bradley Loock, Madeleine Chalmers and great-grandchild Coltyn Djonne. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son Baby Boy Barnes.
