Eugene Leslie Rasmussen

Eugene L. Rasmussen age 79 formerly of Garvin, MN died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia, MN. Service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment will at the Bethel Cemetery in Custer Township, Lyon County, MN. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements. Eugene L. Rasmussen was born November 4, 1929 to Herman G. and Hilma (Carlson) Rasmussen on a farm near Ivanhoe, MN, Lincoln County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended country school. As a young man he worked as a farm hand on several area farms and also farmed with his family. He then went to work for Central Bi-Products of Marshall, MN. On December 31, 1957 Eugene married Lilah Kopitzke in Hendricks, MN. They made their home in several area communities until 1968 when they made their home in Garvin, MN. In 2006 he and his wife moved to Dawson, MN then in October of 2008 he became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Olivia, MN. Over the years, Eugene drove truck for Kelco Trucking and also ADM. In the past he worked in maintenance for the City of Balaton, MN. He also worked for the Lyon County Park Service, taking care of Garvin County Park for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising small dogs, and he felt a strong sense of responsibility to the environment through recycling. On Saturday, February 21, 2009 Eugene entered the Renville County Hospital in Olivia where he died at the age of 79. Eugene is survived by his wife, Lilah Rasmussen of Dawson, MN; six sons, Eugene (Mary) Rasmussen of Staples, MN, Conrad (Barb) Rasmussen of Garvin, MN, Dallas (Tami) Rasmussen of Welcome, MN, Wade (Darlene) Rasmussen of Tracy, MN, Jeff Rasmussen of Marshall, MN and Darrell (Amy) Rasmussen of Dawson, MN; four daughters, Terry Rasmussen of Dawson, MN, Rebecca (Sherman) Sheets of Thomas Township, MN, Gale (Kevin) Lacek of Canby, MN and Lisa (Roger) Carlson of Truman, MN; twenty-four grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Rasmussen of Glenwood, MN; one sister, Violet Burczak of Marshall, MN; many nieces and nephews. His parents, one son, Mark, one brother, Arnold, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Rasmussen and one brother-in-law, Alex Burczak preceded him in death.
