Evelyn (Kramer) Arens was born on January 12, 1917, in Rushmore, MN, to Edwin and Margaret (Kitchin) Kramer. She attended rural schools near Rushmore and graduated from High School at Worthington, MN. Evelyn then attended Mankato State College where she received her teaching degree in elementary education. She taught in rural schools in Nobles and Lincoln County for 13 years and taught at St. Eloi Catholic School for 24 years. After her retirement, she worked as a greeter at Walmart until age 90. On June 29, 1937, she and Lawrence Arens were united in marriage at St. Adrianâs Catholic Church in Adrian, MN. The couple farmed in the Adrian, Lismore and Holland communities. In 1952, they purchased a farm near Tyler, MN, and lived there until 1973. They moved to Marshall in 1973, where Lawrence died on November 6, 1973. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, gardening and maintaining her yard. She was also fond of 4-H both as a participant in her youth and as a leader in adulthood. She was most passionate about education and teaching.
Evelyn died on Friday, November 15, 2013, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She is survived by her sons John, of Lake Benton and Marc of Minneapolis, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, son Dale, five brothers and three sisters.
