Everette E. Johnson age 80 of Balaton, MN died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at his home in Balaton. Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Victory Christian Church in Balaton. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 15, 2012, also at Victory Christian Church. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton, with a luncheon served immediately following the burial in the church social hall. The Almlie Family Funeral Homes of Balaton, Tracy and Westbrook is handling the arrangements.
Everette Eugene Johnson was born March 8, 1932 to Evert and Gladys (Johnson) Johnson in Tyler, MN, Lincoln County. He was baptized on April 10, 1932 and confirmed Zion Lutheran Church on June 1, 1947. He grew up on a farm south of Balaton, MN and attended Balaton Public Schools, graduating from Balaton High School in 1950. He then farmed with his father for several years.
On April 12, 1952 Everette married Mavis Fuhrmann and they made their home near Balaton. In September of 1952 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served until June of 1954, during which, Everette was stationed in Korea for a year. While in the service his wife lived in Augusta, GA and Colorado Springs, CO, until his Honorable Discharge, when they returned to the Balaton area and resumed farming. In 1959 they purchased their own farm and continued to live there until they moved into Balaton in 2004. Mavis died on August 19, 2010 and Everette continued to live in their home.
He was a member of the Victory Christian Church. A farmer all his life, Everette also enjoyed playing bass guitar, entertaining many people and serving his church in a ministry of music for over twenty years. He was a member of the Rock Lake Township Board for twenty one years, enjoyed playing horseshoe, going camping, and building horse drawn buggies.
On Sunday, March 11, 2012 Everette died at his home in Balaton at the age of 80.
Everette is survived by his three sons, Evan (Pamela) Johnson and Lonny (Diane) Johnson, both of Balaton, MN, and Terry (Julie) Johnson of Brooklyn Park, MN; six grandchildren, Melissa (Cory) Dudgeon, Travis (Holly) Johnson, Evar, Brita, Christopher, and Sarah Johnson; one step-granddaughter, Alisha Duthoy; four great grandsons, Chase Johnson, Cade, Caleb, and Braxton Dudgeon; one brother, Darvin (Beverly) Johnson of Slayton, MN; nieces, nephews and many friends.
His wife, Mavis, granddaughter, Gretchen, parents, and sister, Vivian Stewart preceded him in death.
