Floyd W. Pittman age 94 of Balaton, MN died Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Pipestone County Hospice in Pipestone, MN. Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton. Interment will be in the spring at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Dovray, MN. A luncheon will be served in the Balaton Community Center following the service on Friday. The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements.
Floyd Winston Pittman was born July 15, 1915 to Charles Thomas and Alta (Becker) Pittman in Moweaqua, IL, Shelby County. He was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Champaign, IL and attended school in Moweaqua. In February of 1931 his family moved to a farm south of Worthington, MN and he farmed with his father.
On September 14, 1933 Floyd married Adeline M. Gintaut in Worthington. They made their home on a farm west of Brewster, MN from 1936 until February of 1946. That year they moved to Balaton, MN where Floyd and his wife owned and operated several businesses over many years. These included the Minneapolis Moline Implement Shop, the Roller Drome Skating Rink, the Gem Theatre and the Pla-Eatorium Restaurant. He also owned the Card & Pool Hall in Tracy, MN for several years, that later became Craigâs Pool Hall and in Pipestone, MN he owned the Hiawatha Skating Rink.
Floyd was a member of the St. Peterâs Lutheran Church in Balaton. He enjoyed motor repair and wood carving. In 2008 he became a resident of Danebod Village Home in Tyler, MN and in January of 2010 he became a resident of the Pipestone County Hospice in Pipestone where he died Monday, February 15, 2010 at the age of 94.
Floyd is survived by his three children, Dorothy A. Murphy of Kingman, AZ, Richard F. (Beverly) Pittman of Lake Benton, MN and Fern M. Crocker of Pipestone, MN; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Lavonne Baerenwald of Fulda, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.
His wife, Adeline, one son-in-law, Pete Murphy, one sister, Viola Ling and one brother, Larry Pittman preceded him in death.
