Fonda Joy DeKruif

Fonda J. DeKruif age 61 of Chandler, MN died Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be 10:30 AM Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Chandler Reformed Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Chandler Funeral Chapel, and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the Chandler Memorial Cemetery and a luncheon will be served immediately after the burial in the church social hall. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements. Fonda Joy DeKruif was born August 5, 1950 to John and Gertrude (Rikkers) Koerselman in Hull, IA. She was baptized and professed her faith in the Matlock Reformed Church. She attended grade school in Matlock, IA and later graduated from Sheldon High School in 1968. Fonda graduated in 1972 from Northwestern College in Orange City, IA and received her Bachelor of Science degree in English and Library Science. On November 25, 1981 Fonda married Gerald DeKruif in Matlock and they made their home on a farm near Chandler, MN. She taught English and was the school librarian at Chandler-Lake Wilson High School and Elementary for twenty-four years. Most recently, Fonda worked as an office assistant for Farm Bureau in Slayton, MN. She was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church and was very active in Circle, Reformed Church Women, sang in the choir and served as Education Director for three years. She also served on the Slayton Public Library Board and the Plum Creek Library Board. Fonda enjoyed reading, playing Pinochle, baking, and writing notes and letters to family and friends. On Monday, March 5, 2012 Fonda died at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 61. Fonda is survived by her husband, Gerald DeKruif of Chandler, MN; one son, Travis of Chandler, MN; two daughters, Melanie (Nick) Andersen of Magnolia, IA and Lindsey DeKruif of Holland, MI; one grandson, Adam Andersen; two brothers, John (Cheryl) Koerselman and Laverne (Carol) Koerselman both of George, IA; one sister, Twila (Darrell) DeGroot of Sheldon, IA; two brothers-in-law, Harvey (Donna) DeKruif and William (JoAnn) DeKruif both of Chandler, MN; one sister-in-law, Martha (Harold) DeKam of Edgerton, MN; nieces, nephews and many friends. Her parents, parents-in law, Peter and Jennie DeKruif, and one sister-in-law, Janette and her husband, Peter Reitsma preceded her in death.
