A graveside service for Frances “Fran” Lacina, 104, of Canby, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at the Canby City Cemetery.
Frances “Fran” Rosella (Groven) Lacina was born on August 9, 1920, on the family farm near Canby to Gilbert and Caroline (Olson) Groven. She was the youngest of ten siblings and was baptized on October 17, 1920. Fran attended country school in Fortier Township, then graduated from Canby High School. On February 5, 1946, Fran married Joseph Lacina in Fairfield, CA. After their marriage, the couple lived briefly in the Twin Cities, before moving to Colorado Springs. After Joe’s death, Fran lived on her own in Colorado until she was in her eighties, when she moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. She lived at Boulder Estates in Marshall for a few years and most recently lived at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby.
Frances was a free spirit who enjoyed traveling, including trips to Hawaii and Arizona. She loved exploring new places, and she said if she was born a man 100 years earlier, she would have been an explorer. Her favorite job was passing out free samples in front of the local grocery store with a girlfriend. Fran also enjoyed playing cards, reading, and going out to eat with family and friends.
Fran died on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Sanford Sylvan Court in Canby. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and nursing home caregivers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, and siblings Agnes, Gida, Melven, Albin, Eldrick, Clarence, George, Helen, and Hilma.
