Bud was born on July 31, 1916, in Minneapolis, MN, to Lewis and Hulda (Peterson) Almich. He grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. In 1936, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Martin in Robbinsdale. For 32 years, Bud co-owned and operated the Super Valu Store in Marshall with Orvall and Joyce Ekness. He retired in 1975 and enjoyed retirement for 34 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the JCs, was past-presidednt of the Menâs Club and was very active at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Bud enjoyed fishing, traveling, spending time with grandchildren and time at the lake. He looked forward to hosting the annual Martin Family Reunion at his residence at Battle Lake. Bud was a great accordion player and visited many nursing homes playing for the âold folks.â He began playing accordion by ear at age 12. He knew over 100 songs by heart and his loving wife, Lorraine, accompanied him on the nursing home visits to sing. Bud was also an accomplished walleye âjigâ fisherman.
He died on Monday, August 24, 2009, at the Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.
Bud is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of Marshall, children Bob (and Audrey) of Marshall, Mary Ann (and Bill) Schwarz of Wabasso, Bill (and Betty) of Granite Falls, Jim (and Jo Ann) of Villard, Connie (and Greg) Carrow of Pipestone, Mark (and Tammy) of Buffalo Lake, 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sisters Charlotte Lowe and Marie Hoeder. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Tommy, four brothers and two sisters.
