The memorial service for Frank Van Hecke Sr., 78, of Balaton, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the Life Remembrance Center in Balaton. Interment and military rites will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Tracy at a later date. Frank Richard Van Hecke was born on October 25, 1939, in Davenport, IA. At age ten, he moved with his mother to Tracy where he graduated from Tracy High School. Frank enlisted and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. During his service, he was united in marriage to Wanda Sumner. After his discharge, the couple lived in California where Frank worked for Lockheed Martin. After Wanda’s death in 1991, Frank returned to Tracy. He worked doing maintenance for apartments in Marshall and helping local farmers. Frank was very handy and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed gardening. For the last ten years, Frank has been living in Balaton. Frank died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at his residence in Balaton. He is survived by his children Frankie Jr., Veronica, Jason and Amanda, grandchildren, siblings Betty Hardenberger and Donna Moat, nephew Brian (and Kimberly) Lauwers and nieces Annie Hardenberger and Martha Moat, great-nieces nephews Marc Hardenberger, Ashley Barker and Skyler Hartson, Felicia Lauwers, Bryce Lauwers and Dylan Lauwers, Sara Hartson, Matthew Hartson and Carter Cunningham Rhianna Melton, Jordan Melton, Kaylee Moat and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother James Lauwers, brother-in-law Orville Moat and great-nephew Cody Hartson.
