Frank Leon Swedzinski was born on August 29, 1929, in Canby, to Frank and Winifred (Boulton) Swedzinski. He grew up on the family farm in rural Taunton and lived his whole life in Lincoln County. Frank graduated as Valedictorian at Minneota High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Eldoris Van Den Broeke on September 7, 1954. To this union were born seven children. Frank was very active in his community. He served as Township Assessor for nine years and County Commissioner for 16. During this time, he was elected President of the Association of Minnesota Counties in 1994. He served on the Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership for 15 years, as Chairman for six, the Divine Providence Healthcare Board for 40 years, Chairman for 20, and was the Land Reviewer on the Del Clark Lake in Canby in addition to numerous other civic positions. His faith was very important to him. He was a lifelong member of Sts Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church where he served as Trustee. He taught CCD for 24 years, sang in the choir and for many weddings, funerals and other events. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was instrumental in the foundation of the All Saints Council in 1960 and served the first full term as Grand Knight. Frank had not missed weekly Mass since 1972 when he had surgery. Family was also very important to Frank, especially time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frank died on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. He is survived by his son John Swedzinski of Porter, daughter Mary Swedzinski (and Dan Loos) of East Hampton, CT, daughter Kate (and Fred) Ganter of Cuba City, WI, son Greg (and Julie) Swedzinski of Porter, MN, daughter Beth McMahon of Manteca, CA, son William Swedzinski of Porter, son Todd (and Darla) Swedzinski of Dawson, 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, siblings Dorothy Stake of Lennox, SD, Ruth Jacobs of Simi Valley, CA, Tom (and Madeline) Swedzinski of Taunton, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eldoris and sister Helen McGuire.
