Gaston Andrew Vlaminck was born on January 25, 1927, in rural Ghent, to Peter and Ida (Sinave) Vlaminck. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Ghent and Ivanhoe. Gaston enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Minneota. On April 17, 1948, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Wambeke at St. Edward Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family north of Minneota. In 1996, they moved to Minneota. Gaston was an active member of the American Legion Post 199 of Minneota, the NFO (National Farmers Organization.) and St. Edward Catholic Church. He was most passionate about his faith and spending time with his family.
Gaston died on Sunday, May 12, 2013, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Minneota, children Tom (and Julie) of Marshall, Jim (and Marcia) of Minneota, Bill (and Mary) of Marshall, Pat (and Phyllis) of Porter, Bonnie (and Ed) Laleman of Minneota, Joann (and Fred) Grant of Rockford, IL, Judy (and Mike) OâNeil of Waseca, MN, Ron (and Val) of Taunton, Mike (and Dawn) of Ghent, Rick (and Alanna) of Santee, CA, grandchildren Gina, Jenny, Chuck, Becky, Ben, Jacob, Shawn, Shandteli, Scott, Chris, Curt, Steve, Brad, Bruce, Tim, Rick, Bonnie, Gabe, Mike, Mackenzie, Patrick, Stephanie, Keith, Erika, Abby, Ryan, Robert, and Bryon, 52 great-grandchildren, siblings John (and Bea), Alouis (and Elaine), Lucien (and Jean), nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Shea OâNeil, great-grandchildren Bruce John Laleman, Jr., Laila Rose Vlaminck and Sydney Lee Vlaminck, siblings Martha DeSmet, Paul, Cyriel, Jerry and Andrew Vlaminck.
