George Hahn age 85 of Currie, MN died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, August 10, 2012 at St. Paulâs Catholic Church in Walnut Grove, MN. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a rosary at 6:00 PM and a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Tracy following a luncheon in the church social hall. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.
George Leonard Hahn was born October 2, 1926 to Harry and Myra (Farnsworth) Hahn in Slayton, MN, Murray County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. George attended country school and then Walnut Grove Public Schools, graduating from Walnut Grove High School in 1944. He then attended two years of Agricultural School at the University of Minnesotaâs St. Paul Campus, returning to the Walnut Grove area and farming with his father. On October 25, 1950 George was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a Medic in Germany. He received his honorable discharge in October of 1952 and he returned to the family farm.
On January 29, 1955 George married Suzanne M. Lauwers in St. Paul, MN and they made their home on a farm south of Walnut Grove, MN for thirteen years before moving to another farm nearby. George retired from farming in 1986, but they continued to live on the farm to this day. George was a member of the St. Paulâs Catholic Church in Walnut Grove and the Currie American Legion. He enjoyed horses, motorcycles and raising cattle.
On Saturday, August 4, 2012 George died at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 85.
George is survived by his two sons, Don (Kristin Giles) Hahn of Currie, MN and Tom (Brenda Stynski) Hahn of Marshall, MN; one daughter, Julie (Shawn Hofer) Hahn of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Melissa, Donovan (Kristi), Jacqueline and Angela Hahn; two great grandchildren, Hayley and Bailey Hahn; and friends.
His parents, son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Peggy Hahn preceded him in death.
