George John Laleman was born May 15, 1923 to Leon and Alice (Van Lerberghe) Laleman in Montpelier, ND. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church and attended country school. In 1934 his family moved to a farm near Cottonwood, MN in Stanley Township and he continued to farm with his family.
On April 15, 1947 George married Alice Lanoue at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Milroy, MN. They made their home on the family farm until 1955, when they moved to a farm near Milroy. They continued to farm until 1966, when they moved near Marshall, MN and then into Marshall in 1984.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Besides farming, George enjoyed traveling with his wife, taking over twenty bus tours around the country, and spending time with his family. Since moving to the Marshall area in 1966, George was active as a school bus driver in Marshall for ten years, drove Western Community Action bus for five years, and was a School Crossing Guard for twenty three years. He also bought, repaired and sold bicycles for many years. He will always be remembered for his good sense of humor and his story telling.
In 2013 George became a resident of the Minneota Manor and then in June of 2014 he moved into Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall, where he died, Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the age of 92.
George is survived by his two daughters, Gerri (Merlyn) Steffen of Lucan, MN and Susan (Jeff) Enstad of Willmar, MN; five grandchildren, Rhonda (James) Pohlen, Ronald (Elodie) Steffen, Ryan (Katherine) Steffen, Spencer Enstad and Marin Enstad; three great grandchildren, Ella, Jada and Crist Pohlen; one brother, Andrew Laleman of Marshall, MN; one sister, Margaret Stassen of Marshall, MN, many nieces, nephews and friends.
His wife, Alice; his parents Leon and Alice; one son, Alan; one grandson, Avery Josiah Enstad; one brother, Joseph Laleman and one sister, Mary Buysse preceded him in death.
