George Nyquist age 77 of Tracy, MN died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home in Tracy. Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. A luncheon will served immediately following the service and the interment will be in the Bethany Cemetery, near Vahalla on Lake Shetek, after the luncheon. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements. George Andrew Ivan Nyquist was born February 9, 1936 to Otto and Annie (Mold) Nyquist Sr. on a farm in Monroe Township, Lyon County. An 11 lb baby, he was delivered by his father, during a blizzard that prevented Dr. Workman from making it to the family farm. George was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Country School District #88 until the 8th grade, then attended Tracy High School, graduating in 1954. As a young man he then worked with his father on the farm. On August 8, 1971 George married Sandra Madsen at Tracy Lutheran Church and they made their home on a farm in Shetek Township, where he farmed until his retirement in 2013. He was a “master of all trades” on the farm and enjoyed raising cattle and hogs, and working on old John Deere tractors, always trying to improve on what he had to work with. He was an avid reader of history and Sci-Fi books, and enjoyed meeting new people, talking with them and learning about their lives. To George, family was most important and he strived to keep everyone connected to each other, through letter writing and phone calls. George was a member of the Tracy Lutheran Church and was active in working with the youth in the church serving the Lenten meals, and was known as the “jello man”, for his making the jello salads for all the church functions. He also helped out at the senior center in Tracy, cooking Lutefisk for their fundraiser for several years. As George’s health failed he became a patient of Hospice of Murray County in recent weeks. He died Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 77. George is survived by his wife, Sandra Nyquist of Tracy, MN; one daughter, June (John) Rezac of Waterville, MN; two sons, Daniel Nyquist and Carl (Soni) Nyquist, both of Tracy, MN; four grandchildren, Andrew, Cassandra, Samuel and Isabelle; two brothers, Otto (Elaine) Nyquist Jr. of Amiret, MN and Lawrence (Connie) Nyquist of Houston, TX; nieces, nephews and friends. His parents, Otto Sr. and Annie Nyquist, his grandparents, and several other family members preceded him in death.
