George Bernard Quigley was born on November 28, 1918, in Springdale Township, Redwood County, to Thomas and Clara (Renike) Quigley. He attended country school in Springdale Township in a one room school house. After the eighth grade, he worked on the home farm and for other farmers in the area. The Quigley farm became a century farm in 1984. George served in the U.S. Air Force from May of 1942 to December, 1945. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Earl Knott for a couple years before he started farming on his own. On August 30, 1947, he was united in marriage to Tena Visker at the Church of Christ in Tracy. After Georgeâs retirement from farming in 1978, he bought his brotherâs garbage route which he operated for eight years. After he sold that business, he worked for his nephew, Butch Quigley. George enjoyed flower gardening, doing puzzles and reading (he read the Bible four times.) He was a longtime member, Deacon and Elder at the Church of Christ in Tracy.
George died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy. He is survived by his wife, Tena, of Tracy, daughters Mary Ellen (and Larry) Halverson of Waseca and Karen (and Neil) Jensen of Rogers, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Thomas and Walter Quigley.
