George Vierstraete

George Vierstraete was born on December 28, 1929, in rural Marshall, to Arthur and Emma Vierstraete. He grew up on the family farm. George enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to the Marshall area and continued farming. On April 12, 1958, he was united in marriage to Dolores Jacob at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family southwest of Marshall. George enjoyed fishing, playing cards and going to Mike’s Café for coffee. He was a sports fan and followed the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He was most passionate about his family and his love of farming. He was especially fond of his grandchildren and enjoyed all aspects of farming. He enjoyed gardening and gatoring around the neighborhood with his dog, Duke. George died on Friday, November 21, 2014, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, of Marshall, daughter Karen (and Gerry) Vierstraete Werth , grandchildren Danya and Anton, of Minneapolis, daughter Sharon (and Brett) Lundberg, granddaughters Kristine and Amy, of Duluth, daughter Helen Vierstraete of Rochester, son Steven, grandchildren Jade, Jaxon and Jewlz of Marshall, daughter Joann (and Kevin) Suliin, grandchildren Ahna, Jacob and Ben of Duluth, son Dwain and son Jason of Marshall, sisters Elsie Capp and Elizabeth Christianson of Green Valley, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Julius, Maurice, Cyriel and Camiel.
