Georgie Ann "Hon" Mortier was born on January 22, 1936 in rural Bird Island, the sixth of seven girls born to Carl and Anastasia (Bertamus) Schmoll. She attended country school and graduated from the Catholic School in Bird Island. After graduation, she worked for a time for the City Attorney in Marshall. On September 3, 1955, she was united in marriage to Francis "Mort" Mortier. The couple farmed near Tyler until moving to Marshall in 1968. Hon worked for various employers including 10 years at the Schwan Food Company. She enjoyed bowling and golf and was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. After retirement, the couple wintered in Southern Texas for many years.
Hon died gracefully with her family by her side on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall, MN, following a brief bout with cancer. She is survived by her children Julie Nesson of Sioux Falls, Karen (and Bill âBuckâ) Bender of Poynette, WI, Mike (and Mary) Mortier of Marshall, John (and Loretta) Mortier of Prior Lake, Dale (and Peggy) Mortier of Champlin; grandchildren Adam Nesson, Lexi (and Tim) Kahnk, Carly (and Tim) Fountain, Caitlin (and Matthew) Fahy, Cory (and Karen) Bender, Daniel (and Kathleen) Mortier, David Mortier, Emily Mortier (and fiancé Eli Welu), Angie Sussner (fiancé Ian Blumer), Stephanie (and Jason) Andrews, Tucker Mortier and Tanner Mortier; great-grandchildren Brittany and Blake Andrews and Nora and Rayner Kahnk; sisters Rosie Lanoue, Carlene Maxwell, Charlotte (and Jack) Friedrichs; brothers-in-law Syl Eischens and Clayton Ellingson; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis "Mort", parents, stillborn brother George, sisters Katherine Paradis, Sally Eischens and Ole Ellingson and son-in-law Steve Nesson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Prairie Home Hospice of Marshall.
