Gilbert Alois Lanners was born on March 2, 1936, in Omro Township, to John and Catherine (Nosbusch) Lanners. He grew up in Omro Township, attended St. Leo Parochial School and graduated from Canby Vocational Tech School. During the Korean Conflict, Gil served in the U.S. Army as a Telecommunications Operator with the 51st Signal Company in Korea and Alaska. He received numerous awards for his service. On September 9, 1961, Gil was united in marriage to Connie King at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Canby. The couple farmed and raised their family in Omro Township. Gil loved farming and continued to farm his home place from his birth through his whole life. He and Connie moved to Marshall in 1998. Gil was a lifetime member of the Dawson VFW, was the Charter Secretary of the St. Leo Men's Club and was the Omro Township Clerk.
Gil died on Thursday, April 23, 2009, at his residence in Marshall.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, of Marshall, son David William Lanners ofSt. Leo, daughter Ann Lanners of Marshall, brother Leo Lanners of Marshall, sister Irene Swedzinski of Marshall, sister Agnes Martinson of Maplewood, and sister Vivian (Jim) Gregoire of Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Alvin and Roger.
