Glenn Moran was born in Beloit, WI, and adopted by Henry and Jane Moran who lived on a farm in the Kasson, MN, area until Henryâs death in 1924. Glenn and his mother then moved to Eden Prairie to be closer to her sisters. Glenn attended grade and high school in Eden Prairie and graduated from Hamline University. He was a member of the 1942 Hamline National Championship Basketball Team and was proud to have played for Joe Hutton. Three years in the Naval Meteorological Service led to a lifelong interest in the weather. His first job after World War II was coaching basketball for five years in Cambridge, MN. In 1951, Glen, Betty, and their sons moved to Marshall where he taught American History and coached basketball and baseball. Glenn was the first Director of the Summer Rec Program which consisted of hundreds of young boys in âPee Weeâ and âMidgetâ Baseball. For many years, he was a play by play announcer for high school and college games for KMHL. Glenn served on the Board of the Lyon County Savings and Loan and was Trustee of Christ United Presbyterian Church several times.
Glenn died on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Marshall, sons Mark (and Maureen,) Dave (and Pat,) Wade (and Barb,) five grandchildren; Chris, Ben, Megan, Molly and Shannon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Jane Moran.
