Glennis Dale Staufacker was born January 21, 1925 to Chris and Mattie (Blumeyer) Staufacker on a farm near George, IA. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church, rural George and attended country school. As a young man he worked with his father on the farm before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945. As he was shipped out over seas in the Pacific, the war came to a close, he was returned to the states and received his honorable discharge in 1946. He then returned to the family farm in Iowa. On June 3, 1947 Glennis married Lois Fry at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church near George, IA and they made their home on a farm in the George and Everly, IA area. In 1968 they moved to a farm near Garvin, MN, where they remained until his retirement in 1989, when they moved into Tracy, MN. In 2003 he became a resident of the Tracy Nursing Home and later the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Glennis was a farmer his whole life but his community, church and family were all very important to him. He was a member of the Garvin Congregational Church, where he served as Trustee and also sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Garvin American Legion and Tracy Lions Club. Glennis drove school bus for over 16 years for the Tracy School District and was also a hospital courier for several area hospitals, including Tracy and Westbrook, for many years. He liked to fish, collected farm toys and caps, gardening, square dancing, and camping with family and close friends, Don and Anna Gene Burke. Glennis, his wife and the Burke’s enjoyed many trips and “Happy Hours” over the years. He and Lois also liked to travel, taking many trips, such as a memorable trip to Germany, but his great love was spending time with his grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his special days with them, from Easter egg hunts to fun gifts on the holidays. On Sunday, February 6, 2011 Glennis died, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 86. Glennis is survived by his wife, Lois Staufacker of Tracy, MN; two sons, Steven (Pauline) Staufacker of Rapid City, SD and Craig (Mary) Staufacker of Garvin, MN; three daughters, Kristi (Ron) Krause of Lake Benton, MN, Janine (Steve) Albrecht of Maplewood, MN and Kerry (Chris) Harrelson of Columbia, SC; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Ivan Staufacker of George, IA; one sister, Earlene Schroder of Sheldon, IA; one brother-in-law, Wayne Fry of San Francisco, CA; nieces, nephews and many friends.
