Greg was born December 16, 1951, in Marshall MN, the son of John and Louise (Prairie) Ahern. Greg grew up on the family farm with his parents, brothers and sister, and Uncle Maurice Ahern. He was baptized, received First Communion and Confirmation at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota, MN. He attended St. Edward Catholic School grades 1 to 8. Greg then finished his high school education at Minneota Public High School graduating in 1969. His high school activities included football, FFA, wrestling and working with his buddies on cars.
It was obvious at an early age that Greg had an inquisitive mind for anything with an engine or wheels. As a lad, he was often taking things apart. But he actually could repair them and put them back together again. This led to a lifelong interest in hot rods, motorcycles and vehicles.
Greg enjoyed camping, cycling with friends, car races, antique cars and car shows.
Greg served in the U.S. Army from May 1970 to May 1972, when he was honorably discharged. He worked for various road construction contractors. He attended Canby MN Vo- Tech and Hennepin Co Vo-Tech in Eden Prairie MN taking auto mechanics and machining courses. After completing his further education, his career included working in various machine shops doing machining and maintenance of manufacturing shops. He lived and worked in Fairmont MN, for many years and most recently in Watertown SD.
Gregory “Greg” Ahern passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, while receiving hospice care from Prairie Lakes Hospice at Avantara Care Center in Milbank, SD, with family members at his side.
Greg is survived by his brothers Pat (Pauline), Mike (Gail) and sister, Maureen (Dan) Stores along with many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and his special feline, Lucky.
