Mass of Christian Burial for Gregory “Greg” Swedzinski, 62, of Porter, will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Minneota, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service; 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., at St. Edward Catholic Church. Interment will follow the service at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Taunton.
Gregory Lee “Greg” Swedzinski was born on December 21, 1961, in Canby, MN, to Frank and Eldoris (Van Den Broeke) Swedzinski. He grew up in rural Porter and graduated from Minneota High School in 1980. On December 3, 1983, he was united in marriage to his high school “swedeheart” Julie Ulrich. The couple lived in Minneota until 1998 when they moved to a farm close to the family farm in Porter. Greg worked at a variety of jobs throughout his life but he was always a farmer and welder. Most recently he was working for Grandview Farms. He was an outdoorsman and loved camping, hunting and fishing. He was also very devoted to family and enjoyed time spent with them, especially his grandchildren.
Greg died on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD after a brief diagnosis with a rare autoimmune disease. He is survived by his wife, Julie, of Porter; sons Josh (and Megan) of Minneota and Branden of Minneapolis; grandchildren Baily Kaas, Clare and Cole Swedzinski; siblings Mary Alyce (Dan) Loos of East Hampton, CT, Kate (Fred) Ganter of Cuba City, WI, Beth McMahon of Porter, William Swedzinski of Tyler, Todd (Darla) Swedzinski of Dawson and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John.
