Harold D. Anderson age 96 of Balaton, formerly of Garvin, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Colonial Manor in Balaton. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Garvin Congregational Church in Garvin, MN. Visitation will be from 5 â 8 PM on Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton with a prayer service at 7 PM and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Harold Dale Anderson was born February 21, 1914 to George and Lois (Collinson) Anderson at Carthage, SD.
In 1920 Harold moved with his family to Howard, SD. He attended country school and graduated from Howard High School. They farmed by Vilas, SD from 1932 until 1940 when he moved with his folks to Minnesota to a farm north of Lynd. In 1943 they moved to a farm by Garvin, MN.
Harold and Myrna Melligan Christensen were married April 14, 1945 in the Methodist Parsonage in Tracy. Harold enjoyed farming and was driving tractor yet when he was 90. They lived on the same farm for 62 years. In September of 2007 Harold and Myrna moved in to Lakeview Senior Housing in Balaton. They enjoyed seeing the lake and all the big trucks going by. In December of 2008 Harold became a resident at the Colonial Manor in Balaton.
Harold served as a 4H leader for 21 years. He enjoyed taking young people to the State Fair to show livestock or perform demonstrations.
Harold was a member of the Garvin Congregational Church where he served as deacon for more than 40 years and also was Sunday School Superintendent. He also was involved in Bible Studies and sang with the choir and special music.
He was a member of the Garvin Senior Citizens, a neighborhood card club, and enjoyed musical programs and traveling.
Harold spent many years in the woodshop making articles for family and friends. He made numerous items for his wife, each child, grandchild and great grandchild which we really treasure.
Harold passed away June 2nd after loving care by nurses and staff at the Balaton Care Center and Hospice.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Myrna, daughter Donna Miller of Balaton, stepsons David (Judy) Christensen of Pipestone, and Dennis (Marilyn) Christensen of Garvin, 7 grandchildren: Denise (Sylvan) TeKrony, Scott (Julie) Christensen, Eric Christensen, Randy Miller (and friend Kara), Cathy (Randy) Scheid, Mary (Dan) Texidor, Karen Christensen, 4 great grandchildren: Andrew, Kelsey, and Jay Christensen, and Veronica Scheid, 1 brother Lester (Shirley) Anderson and 1 sister-in-law Marjorie Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ethel Scheer and Iris Zimmerman, brother Leland Anderson, 2 brother-in-laws Elmer Scheer and Marvin Zimmerman, sister-in-law Iverene Anderson, son-in-law Gary Miller, daughter-in-law Joan Christensen, and grandson Ryan Miller.
