Harold E. Evens age 90 of Balaton, MN died Friday, March 16, 2012 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, March 19, 2012 at St. Peterâs Lutheran Church in Balaton. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be in the St. Peterâs Lutheran Cemetery in Balaton, with a luncheon served immediately following the service in the church social hall. The Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton is handling the arrangements.
Harold Edward Evens was born September 25, 1921 to Fred and Martha (Wiencke) Evens in Balaton, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Peterâs Lutheran Church in Balaton and attended country school. As a young man he worked with his family on the farm near Balaton.
On March 1, 1949 Harold married Darlene Bauer in Ward, SD. They made their home on a farm southwest of Balaton and continued to farm until he retired in the mid 1980âs.
He was a life-long member of St. Peterâs Lutheran Church and served in the past as Treasurer and taught Sunday School. Harold enjoyed farming, and in his retirement years he enjoyed gardening and selling of his produce at the Farmerâs Market in Marshall, MN. He also raised a lot of grass hay that he would sell at the Pipestone Sale Barn.
In May of 2008 Harold became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton, where he died Friday, March 16, 2012 at the age of 90.
Harold is survived by his wife, Darlene Evens of Balaton, MN; three sons, Philip Evens and James (Debbie) Evens, both of Balaton, MN and Donald Evens of Marshall, MN; four daughters, Darlene Evens of Balaton, MN, Maria DeMasi of Montgomery, AL and Yellowstone National Park, Gina (Tim) Rott of Ashley, ND, and Esther Evens of Balaton, MN; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents, two brothers, Herbert Evens and Malvin Evens and one sister, Lora Scotting preceded him in death.
