Harold Carl Schwartz was born November 13, 1927 in Springfield, MN to Carl and Loretta (Moeller) Schwartz. Upon graduating from Springfield High School, he enlisted in the Navy. After being discharged, he was united in marriage to Lois Wandersee on January 17, 1954 and they lived in Brookings, SD while Harold pursued his pharmacy degree. Upon graduation, they moved to Springfield to begin his pharmacy career. In August 1957, he purchased and ran the drug store in Minneota until his son, Kevin took over in August of 1988. Harold was very involved in the community and supported the building of the original swimming pool and helped bring the nursing home to Minneota, as well as the golf course. He also was the mayor of Minneota for several years. Harold loved to travel with family, taking several trips with Kevin, as well as his daughters and nieces. He enjoyed history, which lead to him watching National Geographic and the History Channels on TV. He was a frequent visitor to the local casinos and also joined the community men on a daily basis for coffee at the Round Up.
Harold died on Friday, October 7, 2016 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, MN after suffering a massive hemorrhagic stroke at his home.
Harold is survived by his children, Kevin (Vicki) Schwartz of Waconia, Dawn Goffin of Buffalo, Tammy (John) Hageman of Savage, Steven (Kathy) Schwartz of St Paul, and Lisa(Mike) Ahartz of Aurora, South Dakota, his brother Dave Schwartz of Springfield, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, siblings Gladys Zihlke, Jeanne Plamann, Sharon Hagert, Richard Schwartz, infant sister Margie Schwartz, a baby brother who died at birth, and granddaughter Leah Hageman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Minneota Veterans Park, Minneota Boxelder Bug Days or Minneota Roundup.
