Harry Felix Noyes was born October 23, 1922 in Grandview Township, MN, to Camiel and Mary (Dobbelaere) Noyes. He was raised on a farm near Ghent and attended country school through the 8th grade. On November 18, 1947 he was united in marriage to Leona Helen Downing. To this union of 64 years, 11 children were born; Marcie, David, Marge, Larry, Bob, John, Tom, Sharon, Pat, Marilyn, and Harvey.
Harry was a faithful husband, a good father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was an active member of St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton until 2009, and then a member of the St. Peters Catholic Church in Canby. He seldom missed Sunday Mass.
Harry and Leona farmed northeast of Porter from 1951 until 2002. Harry loved the land. He farmed the way he knew best, with good intentions. Harry was not just a farmer of the land, but also raised livestock. For many years the family ran a dairy farm, raised beef cattle and hogs. He had a custom swathing business and enjoyed working for others. He lived for the satisfaction of a job well done.
Harry was a straight shooter and a man of his word. His firm handshake was as good as a signed document. He raised his children with a strong hand; instilling values of hard work, promptness and honesty. Harry got up early, stayed up late and lead by example.
In 2002, Harry and Leona moved off the farm and built a house in Porter. He and his family celebrated his 80th birthday on move-in day. Senior dining and playing cards at the Porter café soon became favorite pastimes. Fittingly, Harry passed away during a game of Pepper at the cafe, on February 2, 2012, at the age of 89. Overall, life dealt Harry a good hand.
Harry is lovingly remembered by his wife Leona of Porter; children, David (Cora) Noyes of Savage, Marge (Dale ) Swanson of Kensington, Larry (Darlene) Noyes of Sioux Falls, SD, Bob (Teresa) Noyes of Porter, John (Julie) Noyes of Porter, Tom (Becky) Noyes of Porter, Sharon (Chuck) Buysse of Marshall, Pat (Doug) Blackwell of Commerce, MI, Marilyn (Jadee) Larkin of Kensington, and Harvey (Dicksy) Noyes of Marshall; 30 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud. He is also survived by his brother George Noyes and sister Emma Downing.
He was preceded in death by his daughter; Marcie Kimpe Ningen; grandson, Greg Kimpe; his parents; brothers, Mike and Remi; and sister, Martha.
May he rest in peace.
