Harvey Melvin Van Roekel

Harvey M. Van Roekel age 71 of Chandler, MN died at his home on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Chandler Reformed Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Monday, December 19, 2011 at the Chandler Funeral Chapel. Interment will be prior to the service at 9:30 AM Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery. A luncheon will be served immediately after the service at the church. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements. Harvey Melvin Van Roekel was born November 7, 1940 to Geurt and Catherine (Bothof) Van Roekel on the family farm in Fenton Township, Murray County, MN. He was baptized as an infant and later as an adult professed his faith in the Chandler Reformed Church. He attended Country School District #83. In his youth, his family moved to a farm near Ruthton, MN for a short time and then moved back to a farm three miles south of Chandler, MN in 1948. As a young man Harvey farmed with his father and remained on the family farm after his parents deaths. He farmed until the early 1990’s when he retired. He was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church. Harvey enjoyed working on farm equipment, especially tinkering with tractors. On Saturday, December 10, 2011 Harvey died at his home on the farm at the age of 71. Harvey is survived by his one sister, Dorothy (Virgil) Klingenberg of Owatona, MN; two brothers, Jacob (Delena) Van Roekel of Clarkdale, AZ and Gearold (Mary) Van Roekel of Sleepy Eye, MN; two nieces; two nephews; cousins and many friends. His parents preceded him in death.
