Helen Mary (Dieken) Dandurand was born on December 16, 1916, in Marshall, to August and Amandine (Schaefer) Dieken. She grew up in rural Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School. On February 14, 1939, she was united in marriage to Peter Dandurand at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. The couple farmed in the Marshall area until 1984 when they retired and moved into town. Helen loved to play cards and belonged to many card clubs, including clubs at the Senior Center and the Golf Club. She and Peter also enjoyed dancing and traveling. The couple traveled to many interesting places and even danced together at President Carterâs inauguration. Helen was a charter member of St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Cottonwood and for many years was the church organist. She also volunteered for many years for the Weiner Memorial Auxiliary. Helen died on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at the Colonial Manor in Balaton. She is survived by her daughters Mona (Dennis) Brown of Lakefield, Myrna Kostuch of Fridley, Marcene (Wayne) Tollefson of Minneapolis, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brothers Abel (Lorena) Dieken and John Dieken, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Peter and one great-grandson.
