Helen Uhlenhopp age 85 of Westbrook, MN died Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday also at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery with a luncheon served in the church social hall immediately following the burial. The Almlie Funeral Home of Westbrook is handling the arrangements.
Helen Marie Uhlenhopp was born October 3, 1928 to Christian and Sophie (Johnson) Petersen in Lamberton, MN, Redwood County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Lamberton Public Schools, graduating from Lamberton High school in 1945. As a young girl she grew up on a farm outside of Lamberton and worked for the Lamberton newspaper, which she very much enjoyed.
On June 9, 1949 Helen married Norman âMikeâ Uhlenhopp in Lamberton and they made their home in Dovray, MN. In the early 1970âs they moved to Westbrook, MN where they built their home in which she has resided ever since. A devoted housewife and mother, there was nothing more important to her then her children and their families. Helen will always be remembered for her good sense of humor, with Norwegian jokes, and how much she absoluetly adored all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a past member of Our Saviorâs Lutheran Church in Dovray and a current member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Helen taught Sunday School in the past and was active in various church womens groups throughout the years. She enjoyed word find puzzles, making lefse, making mints for many occcasions, such as grandchildrenâs weddings and graduations, and spending time up north with the family.
On December 31, 2013 Helen became a resident of the Westbrook Good Samaritan Center where she died, surounded by her loving family, on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the age of 85.
Helen is survived by her six children, Brad (Barb) Uhlenhopp of Westbrook, MN, Sherry (Scott) Swenhaugen of Kenyon, MN, Vicky Uhlenhopp of Marshall, MN, Scott (Tory) Uhlenhopp of Simi Valley, CA, Tracy (Eric) Bloch of Balaton, MN, and Cory (Cami) Uhlenhopp of Bemidji, MN; sixteen grandchildren, Brandi Kyllo, Susan Serryn, Anne Miller, Mary Jo White, Nadia Trippett, Cara, Laurel, Noren, Gyles, Colt and Avery Uhlenhopp, Josh and Drew Swenhaugen, and Dane, Caden and Wyatt Bloch; twelve great grandchildren, Sophia, Seth, Soren and Stellen Kyllo, Sydney, Abigail and Peter Swenhaugen, Jacob, Julie and Jonathon Miller, and Logan and London White; sister, Donna (Bob) Hage of Hector, MN; brother, Edward Petersen of Spicer, MN; sisters-in-law, Arlyce Averill of Wabasso, MN and Shirley Sliker of Walnut Grove, MN; brother-in-law, Gene (Georgia) Uhlenhopp of Cumberland, WI; special aunt, Evie (Leon) Lingle of Springfield, MN; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her husband, âMikeâ, her parents, and five brothers, Harold, Elgin, Robert, Harlan, and Larry Petersen preceded her in death.
