Henry J. Kreun age 90 of Chandler, MN died Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Pipestone County Medical Center. Services will be 2:30 PM Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Chandler Reformed Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 until time of service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Chandler Memorial Cemtery, with a luncheon served immediately following the burial. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements.
Henry John Kreun was born July 21, 1922 to Cornelius and Gertrude (Bruxvoort) Kreun on the farm west of Chandler, MN. He was baptized and professed his faith in the Chandler Reformed Church, and attended country school.
On August 22, 1944 Henry married Ruby Evelyn Dierenfeld in Chandler Reformed Church and they made their home on his family farm, called Valley View, located west of Chandler. They then moved to a farm southeast of Chandler called Pleasant Acres in 1951. Henry farmed and did corn shelling and trucking until his retirement in 1989 when they moved into Chandler, where they remained until October of 2012. After retirement, Henry continued to drive truck and worked on several farms, helping out when he was needed.
He was a life-long member of the Chandler Reformed Church and served as an elder of the church consistory, and was very active in his community. He sold Archer Oil and Handyman Jacks for many years while farming, was a member of the Chandler Lions Club, was a past 4-H Leader, active in the Chandler Senior Citizenâs Center, was a past board member and one of the leaders in starting the Chandler Christian Elementary School and served on the Southwest Christian High School Board. He volunteered his time with RSVP and the Murray County Food Shelf for many years. Henry enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, and bird watching, as well as, spending time with his family.
In October of 2012 Henry and his wife, Ruby, became residents of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN, where he died Friday, March 1, 2013 at the age of 90.
Henry is survived by his loving wife of 68 ½ years, Ruby Kreun of Edgerton, MN; two sons, Daniel Kreun of Marshall, MN and Samuel (Debbie) Kreun of Russellville, AR; six daughters, Esther (Robert) Graham of Cleveland, OH, Laura (Terry) Muller of Stronghurst, IL, Anna (Don) Godeke of Hollandale, MN, Phyllis Van Es of Grinnell, IA, Karen (Chuck) Dorner of Sobieski, WI, and Deborah (Leon) Callahan of Garretson, SD; fourteen grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; four sisters, Johanna Pals of Edgerton, MN, Caroline Schierbeek of Holland, MI, Elizabeth Van Essen of Edgerton, MN, and Priscilla (Clifford) Christians of Champaign, IL; one brother, Charles (Kathy) Kreun of Otsego, MI; one sister-in-law, Nell Dierenfeld, many nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents, one grandson, Timothy Godeke, one son-in-law, James Van Es, two infant brothers, four sisters, Durky (Reinart) Baar, Jeanette (Jim Vande Heide/John Schenk) Schenk, Adrianna (Vernon) Roelofs, and Edith (Harold) Vande Bunte, two brothers, Brant (Julia) Kreun and William (Jeanette) Kreun, sister-in-law Sylva (Gilbert) Schuur and brothers-in-law, Ed Schierbeek, Arie Pals, Henry Van Essen, and Wallace Dierenfeld preceded him in death.
