Henry Vandenburg age 92 of Chandler, MN died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN. Services were held 10:30 Am Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler, MN. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the Chandler Fuenral Chapel. Interment was at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements.
Henry Vanden Burg was born November 29, 1915 to John and Katie (Dekker) Vanden Burg in Chicago, IL. At the age of three he moved with his family to a farm near Chandler, MN. He was baptized and professed his faith at the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler and attended Country School District #83. As a young man he farmed with his family on the home place.
On July 6, 1940 Henry married Josephine Mesman in Slayton, MN and they made their home on the Vanden Burg home place. They farmed until Henryâs retirement in the late 1970âs, and continued to live on the farm until 2002.
Henry was a life long member of the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler and was active in the Menâs Society in years past. He enjoyed music and playing the harmonica, mouth harp and the Accordion. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling, taking many trips together over the years. Henry will be remembered for his terrific sense of humor and quick witted one liners that made many laugh.
In February of 2002 Henry became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN where he died Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at the age of 92.
Henry is survived by his three sons, Harold (Jeanette) Vanden Burg of Tea, SD, Maury (Dawn) Vanden Burg of Richfield, MN and Delwyn (Lee) Vanden Burg of Madison, WI; one daughter, Twyla (Dave) Bacon of Leon, KS; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His wife, Josephine, parents, daughter, Starla Vanden Burg, one great grandson, Zachary Griess, one brother, Cornelius Vanden Burg and three sisters, Christina Tims, Annetta Mollema and Catherine Christians preceded him in death.
The family asks that memorials be given to the Edgebrook Care Center Memorial Fund.
