Hollie Horace Campbell

Hollie H. Campbell age 99 of Tracy, MN died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Hospice House in Slayton, MN. Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy with a prayer service at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at the Willow Lake Cemetery, rural Tracy. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements. Hollie H. Campbell was born December 1, 1909 to Pearl and Rose (Rykhus) Campbell in Alexandria, MN. At the age of three, he moved to the Tracy area and was raised by his grandparents, Ole and Louise Rykhus. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended Country School District #24 in Murray County. At the age of nine he started working for the Holum brothers as a hired man. In 1932 Hollie married Ida Knutson and they made their home on a farm south of Tracy in Shetek Township, Murray County, MN. In the spring of 1940, they moved to the farm that Hollie remained on till 2007 when he moved into O’Brian Court in Tracy. Hollie was a life-long member of Willow Lake Lutheran Church and a current member of Tracy Lutheran Church. In the past he had been active with the Willow Lake Church Council. His life’s work and passion was farming. After his wife’s death in 1963, he continued to farm until his early 90’s when he retired. He enjoyed long rides in the country checking the crops and having coffee and visiting with friends at the Red Rooster Café in Tracy. Hollie also loved bowling, which he started at age 65 and continued to enjoy until he was about 90. He will forever be remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit, ever present smile and his solid honesty and integrity. In May of 2008 Hollie became a resident of the Hospice House in Slayton, MN where he died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the age of 99. Hollie is survived by his one daughter, Marilyn (Floyd) Mottinger of Willmar, MN; five sons, Clayton, (Alice) Campbell of Tracy, MN, Harlan (Muriel) Campbell of Currie, MN, Dennis Campbell of Tracy, MN, Duane (Norma) Campbell of Currie, MN and James Campbell of Plainview, MN; seventeen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a great many friends. His wife, Ida, daughter-in-law, Russy, one infant grandson, one brother Leonard, and one sister, Violet Sandbo preceded him in death.
