Howard Eugene Bennett was born September 24, 1934 to Glen and Alice (Kostel) Bennett, in Sioux City, Iowa, where he was baptized into the Christian faith. The family moved shortly after his birth to Minneapolis and at the age of six moved to Marshall, MN. He made his first communion and was confirmed at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He attended elementary school at St. Joseph Academy and graduated from Marshall High School in 1952. On February 5, 1955, he married the love of his life Pauline Gits at Holy Redeemer. He owned and operated a truck line, warehousing and manufacturing business with his father and brother Rodney. In 1958, Howard and Pauline moved to F Street, where they raised their family of six children. They had many good times with neighbors for the 51 years they lived on the street. In May of 2009, they moved to Hill Street Place and enjoyed their apartment and friends. Howard was active in the community throughout his life. He was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer church, where he served as an usher for over 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd & 4th degrees, the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, American Legion and served on the board of directors of Bremer Bank for 26 years. Howard served in the Army National Guard for 8 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He enjoyed planning vacations for his family. Howard and Pauline would pack all the kids in the station wagon and hit the road to various spots around the country. Howard passed away, Wednesday, October 9th at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center surrounded by his family. Howard is survived by his wife, Pauline; sons, Bill and (Dorian) of Green Bay, WI, Brian and (Maggie) of West Des Moines, IA, Joseph and (Chantal) of Duluth, Ed and (Cindy) of Hopkins, and Tamara and (Mike) Locy of Watertown, SD; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Glyndalyne (Lou) Beauzay of Marshall, Barbara Bell of Naples, FL and brother, Rodney of Luverne. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Alice; daughter, Anita and in-laws, Ed and Theresa Gits. Memorials preferred to either Prairie Home Hospice & Community Care or Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Foundation. Blessed be his memory. Thank you Dad for sharing your life and loving us.
