Irene Louise (Christiansen) Timm was born on July 3, 1921, on a farm near Williams, MN, not far from Lake of the Woods, to Christen and Ida (Knutson) Christiansen. She grew up on the farm homesteaded by her mother. Irene grew up helping with gardening chores, learning to sew and can and was active with 4-H. She attended school in Williams and graduated from Williams High School in 1938. Irene then enrolled at the University of Minnesota in the College of Home Economics in St. Paul. She graduated in 1942 and began her teaching career in Wood Lake, MN. It was there that she met Norman Timm. They were married in 1944 and treasured 57 years of love, devotion and family. The couple had three children: Linda, Holly and Marty. Irene later taught in Milroy, Cottonwood and Marshall. She was a beloved teacher and is still remembered by many of her students. She retired from teaching in 1978 and became very involved with volunteer work. She was active with the American Cancer Society for over 25 years and served in many leadership roles, including ACS President, Crusade Chairman, Reach to Recovery and Relay for Life. Irene was an active member of First Lutheran Church serving on the church council, wedding committee and funeral lunch committee. Irene also sewed church banners and did finishing work on over 500 quilts. After her husbandâs death, she became active as a volunteer for Prairie Home Hospice.
Irene died on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall. She is survived by her daughters Linda (Leo) Heimerl of Wilson, WI, Holly (Rich) Stolp of Mankato, daughter-in-law Carol Timm of Eden Prairie, grandchildren Heidi Steffens, Matt (Carine) Steffens, Shannon (Ben) Davis, Joe Steffens, Nissa (Brian) Fell, Maggie ( Jeff) Weideman, Jordan ( Steph) Stolp, Ashley Timm ( fiancé Curtis Grupe), Corey Timm, great-grandchildren Lilah and Emmett Davis, Lydia and Charlie Fell, Griffin Weideman, Evelyn Stolp, Vera Grupe, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman, son Marty, granddaughter Erika Timm, her parents, one brother and one sister.
