Ivan Paul Carrow was born on February 21, 1928, in Marshall, to Leo Paul and Doris (Adair) Carrow. He grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School. Ivan enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 â 1948. In 1949, he was united in marriage to Ardyce Hentges at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Ivan went to work with his father in the family dry cleaning business. In 1963, he purchased the business and moved to the current location on West College Drive. In 1972, he expanded into the tuxedo and formal wear business. Ivan continued working and expanding the business until his retirement in 1990. He was very involved with the community and served as past-president for several organizations including Marshall JCs, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and the Minnesota Institute of Cleaning and Laundry. He was also a member of the City Council, College Committee, Elks club, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and U.S. American Legion Post 113 of Marshall. Ivan worked to establish the Marshall Parks and Recreation Department and local Hockey Association. Ivan loved golfing, hunting and gardening. He was a talented artist and enjoyed painting and drawing and displayed his work at art shows. Ivan also enjoyed singing and directing his friendsâ âchoir.â He and Ardyce also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Tucson, AZ. Ivan will be remembered for his attitude of service, sharp dress and keen sense of humor.
Ivan died on Monday, October 3, 2011, at his residence in Marshall with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife, Ardyce, of Marshall, children Tom Carrow of Benicia, CA, James (and Ann) Carrow of Marshall, Steven Carrow (and friend Chimge Rentson) of Lake Stevens, WA, Susan (and Tom) Blanchette of Lusby, MD. He is also survived by grandchildren Ben (and Nisha) Carrow, Miranda Carrow, Ta`mora (and Jay) Fuhrmann, Billie Jo Carrow, Jessie Carrow, Charlie Carrow, Lauren Blanchette, Alex Blanchette and Ryann Blanchette and great-grandchildren Alex Carrow, Sara Jane Carrow, Zeb Carrow, Jackson Carrow and Leila Rose Carrow. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo Paul and Doris (Adair) Carrow, sister Eileen, brother Mike and twin brothers in infancy.
