James Stanley Kompelien was born on February 22, 1938, in Clarkfield, to Orvin and Judith (Halverson) Kompelien. He grew up and lived his whole life on the family farm in Westerheim Township. Jim was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church in Normania Township. He graduated from Minneota High School in 1955. On February 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Jacobson at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. Jim was multi-talented and very willing to help anyone in need. He worked for a variety of employer including: K.A. Thompson & Sons, Geiwitz Implement, D & M Implement, Lawrence Moorse, McLaughlin & Schultz and Superior Truss. He was also very active in his community and church and served on a variety of boards including the Westerheim Town Board for over 30 years, for many years on the Minneota School Board, the Westerheim Township Cemetery Board, Hope Lutheran Church Council, including the presidency, Luther League counselor, Jaycees and the Minneota Lions. Jim enjoyed fixing and collecting toys including toy tractors and tonka toys, garden tractor pulling, intarsia woodworking, camping, and going for drives. Jim was very social, enjoyed visiting with people and had many friends. He died on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Minneota Manor under Hospice Care after a lengthy battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Westerheim Township, children Jacqueline (an David) Esping of Porter, Stanley (and Janelle) Kompelien of Granite Falls, Jill Boehne of Cottonwood, Jody (and Gui) Krou of Maple Grove, grandchildren Courtney, Derek, Joshua, Shelby, Mollie, Tanner, Allison and Marilynn, great-granddaughter Abigail, siblings OrLou Jensen of Long Lake and Byron (and Janeen) Kompelien of Cottonwood, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Lloyd Jensen and Maurice Jacobson. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to charity of donor’s choice.
