Mass of Christian Burial for James “Jim” Van Maldeghem, 94, of Marshall, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Rehkamp – Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. Military Honors provided by U.S. American Legion Post 113 of Marshall. James Van Maldeghem was born on January 23, 1917, in Shawmut, MT, to Edmund and Romania (DeBuscher) Van Maldeghem. When he was four years old, he moved with his family to Marshall where he grew up and attended school. On December 30, 1944, Jim was united in marriage to Leona Behnke. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his honorable discharge, the couple returned to Minnesota. Jim farmed in the Green Valley area for a time before purchasing a farm near Vesta. Jim retired in 1982 and moved to Marshall. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and rolle bolle. He was an active member of the Senior Center. Jim died on Sunday, August 28, 2011, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall. He is survived by his children Clair (and Jane) of Shakopee, Joanell (and Vic) Vercruysse of Kenosha, WI, Darla (and Remi) Rohlik of Lucan, Marilyn (and Mark) Duncan of Shakopee, 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Edmund and Romania, wife Leona, brother Hank and sister Nellie Boerboom. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
