James Edward Williams age 73 of Chandler, MN died Friday, November 9, 2012 at his home in Chandler. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at the Chandler Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 Saturday morning at the funeral home. A luncheon will be served in the Lake Wilson American Legion following the service. A private family burial will take place at a later date in the Henning Catholic Cemetery. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements.
James Edward Roy Williams was born November 1, 1939 to James R. and Hilda (Wyffels) Williams in Marshall, MN, Lyon County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended Marshall Public Schools, graduating in 1958 from Marshall High School.
Jim worked as a police officer for several years before he was drafted into the United States Army on September 13, 1963. He served in the Military Police until his honorable discharge on August 31, 1965, when he was transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves until September 12, 1969. Jim attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Soil Conservation and Wildlife Management. Jim farmed for many years and worked as a Soil Conservation Officer for Murray County until his retirement.
He was a member of the St. Maryâs Catholic Church in Lake Wilson, MN and the Lake Wilson American Legion Post #285, where he was very active. He was a past member of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever organizations. He was an avid card player, and enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting ducks and pheasants with his dogs, Sandy and Cinder, in southwest Minnesota, and fishing for panfish at his cabin in Ottertail County, MN, where he always brought home his limit(and occasionally a little more), and shared his catch with friends and family.
On Friday, November 9, 2012 Jim died at his home near Chandler, MN at the age of 73.
James is survived by his sister, Pat Anderson of Vining, MN; two nieces, Kimberly (Jon) Gilbertsen of Savage, MN and Stacy (Jason) Dale of Sartell, MN; one nephew, Steve (Deb) Anderson of Minneapolis, MN; six great nieces and one great nephew, Kaitlin, Krista, Jessica, Kendra, Esther, Norah and Andrew; and many friends both near and far.
His parents and brother-in-law, Greg Anderson preceded him in death.
