Janel DeRoode

d. February 12, 2012

Janel Marie DeRoode was born on June 2, 1953, in Marshall, to John and Alice (Knigge) DeRoode. She grew up in Ghent, attended St. Eloi Catholic Grade School, and graduated from Minneota High School in 1971. In 1976, Janel was injured in an automobile accident, leaving her with lifelong health problems, which she handled with grace, humor, and a positive attitude. She was a great friend and was always willing to provide comfort to those in need. Family was very important to Janel, especially her nieces and nephews. She adored them and she was a very involved “Auntie”! Janel enjoyed playing cards and doing crossword puzzles and was especially fond of her cats. Prior to the accident Janel worked at the family business, Ted’s Bar in Ghent. She also worked for a time at the Silver Dollar Bar in Ghent and Ed’s Plumbing and Heating of Marshall. Janel died on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. She is survived by her siblings Randy (and Sheila) DeRoode of Ghent, Colette (and Mark) Patzer of Marshall, Greta (and Craig) Langland of Willmar, step-mother Clara DeRoode of Marshall, nieces and nephews Heather (and Jay) Cattoor, Ryan DeRoode, Adam (and Chassidy) DeRoode, Hannah Patzer, Austin Patzer, Maddie Langland, Mason Langland, great nephew and nieces, Seth, Abbey and Avery. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Alice DeRoode. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the years of compassionate service provided to Janel by the many home health workers, doctors, and staff at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center. Her days were brighter because of you. God Bless each and every one of you!
