Janet Marie was born July 24, 1944, in Marshall, Minnesota, to Irvin and Esther (Boulton) Schrunk. She graduated in 1962 from Central Catholic High School in Marshall and also from the Minnesota School of Business. She worked at the Lyon County Co-op and for the last 25 years at SWSC until retiring in 2003 due to her illness. She was united in marriage to Karl Salhus on October 5, 1963, in Marshall. Janet was involved in Relay for Life and was also an active member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed spending time at the Wellness Center, yoga, gardening, pets, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her three grandchildren. Janet had a wonderful sense of humor and was always there for her family and friends. She had an open heart and an open door for everyone.
Janet died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer for the last 5 years.
She is survived by her husband, Karl of Marshall; parents, John and Esther McLaughlin of Marshall; a daughter, Karin Herrboldt of Willmar; a son, Kris Salhus of Marshall; three sisters, Kathy (Paul) Blad of Hector, Sandra Albrecht of Fort Collins, Colorado, Kellie (Bryan) Julian of Marshall; three grandchildren, Brittany, Kory, and Heidi. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Irvin; two brothers, John Schrunk and Tom McLaughlin.
