Jean Ann (VanKlei) Waage was born on August 23, 1929, in Fulda, MN, to William and Vivian (Johnson) VanKlei. She grew up and attended school in Fulda. Jean worked for a time as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. For most of her career, Jean worked as a hairdresser and lived in several different communities including Chicago, Minneapolis, Marshall and Tracy. For the last year she lived and received care at the Senior Apartments and Colonial Manor in Balaton, MN. Jean was an avid reader of the Bible. She had read over 12 different versions and enjoyed Bible studies and discussions about the book. She also enjoyed sewing and sewed clothing for herself and her sisters. Jean belonged to the Church of Christ in Marshall. She will be remembered for her very upbeat and joyful demeanor. Jean died on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at the Colonial Manor in Balaton, MN. She is survived by her brother Pete (and Pat) VanKlei of Friendship, WI, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and other siblings.
