Joan Korman

A funeral service for Joan Kathleen (Sumerfelt) Korman, 69 of Marshall, MN, will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota, MN beginning at 11:00 a.m. A public visitation will take place from 9:00a.m. – 11:00a.m. Wednesday morning at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Hope Lutheran Cemetery following the funeral service. A luncheon will be held at Hope Lutheran Church following the graveside service.

Joan Kathleen Sumerfelt was born February 9, 1954 in Minneota, MN, to Lawrence and Barbara (Bernardy) Sumerfelt, and grew up on a farm near Taunton, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton, MN.

She attended Minneota Public School, graduating in 1972. After high school, Joan worked at Schott Corporation in Minneota, MN, and married Glenn Korman April 23, 1977, at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota, MN, where she became a member for the rest of her life.

The couple made their home in the Minneota area for several years, moved to Texas for a short time, then moved back to Minnesota, where they made their home in the Porter and then Park Rapids area. After the death of her husband, Joan moved to Marshall, MN.

Joan Kathleen (Sumerfelt) Korman died June 24, 2023, in the presence of loving family at McLaughlin House in Marshall, MN.

She is survived by her stepdaughter Shannon (John) Helgeson of Winona, MN; three grandchildren Sawyer (Greg Peterson) Helgeson, Anilise Helgeson, David Helgeson, great-grandson Clark Peterson, siblings Pat (Rollie) Thielges of Minneota, Rosann (Mike) Schmitt of Marshall, Tom (Marlys) Sumerfelt of Cottonwood, John (Chris) Sumerfelt of Minneota, Tim (Janet) Sumerfelt of Minneota, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joan is preceded in death by her Husband Glenn, parents Lawrence and Barbara, sisters Susan Johnson and Mary Jane Sumerfelt, her grandparents, a nephew and great niece.
