Joan Marie (Qunell) Polfliet was born on July 20, 1931, in Lyon County, Marshall, MN to Ovid and Cecilia (Gregoire) Qunell. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She grew up on a farm in the Marshall area. Joan was married to Francis Polfliet on August 24, 1949 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. They made their home and raised seven children on a farm near Cottonwood until they moved to their present home in Marshall in 1973. After leaving the farm, Joan worked at Woolworthâs for several years, and then at the Schwan Food Co. Joan enjoyed bowling, traveling, biking, crocheting, knitting, sewing and holding babies. (Any baby would do!) Joan died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Morningside Heights surrounded by her seven children.
Joan is survived by her children, Beverly (Norm) Miskowiec of New Brighton, Debbie (Allan) Poncin of Circle Pines, Terry (Pam) Polfliet of Mondovi, WI, Larry (Cindy) Polfliet of Marshall, Sherri (Dan) Halverson of Eau Claire, WI, Daniel (Becky) Polfliet of Marshall, Pat (Dawn) Polfliet of Lakeville; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Redding) and Vern Gos, Janet (Ed) McFarlane; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis of 63 years; brothers, Bob and George; sister, Gloria and twin-sister Jean.
