Joan Tomasek

Joan Marie (Wagner) Tomasek was born on September 9, 1934, in New Ulm, to Leo and Frances (Matter) Wagner. She grew up in Wabasso and graduated from St. Anne’s Catholic High School in Wabasso. Joan then attended Mankato Teacher’s College. In 1957, she was married to Dennis Tomasek. The couple moved to Minneota where Joan continued her teaching career; first at St. Edward’s Catholic School and later at the Minneota Public School. Joan enjoyed playing the piano and reading. She also enjoyed travelling, especially her trips to Europe and antiquing with her friends. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and enjoyment of life. Joan died on Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She is survived by her children Tim (and Tonya) Tomasek of Marshall, Mitzi (and Scott) Buckingham of Marshall, grandchildren Kelli (and Adam) Gamrak, Kristi (and Lennis) Kennedy, Bailey and Logan Tomasek, great-grandchildren Payton, Jayden, Matthew and Levi Gamrak and Ethan Kennedy, brothers-in-law; Melvin Kretsch of Redwood Falls, Jack Price of Wabasso, Don (and Loris) Tomasek and John (and Pat) Tomasek. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dennis, one infant son and two sisters.
