Joanne Marie Cuypers Cuypers

d. February 23, 2013

Joanne was born on August 11, 1945 to Wesley and Leona Cuypers. She lived a simple life with her parents in a home on Pleasant Street most of her life. Her mother lovingly cared for her until she was fifty years old at which time she moved to a REM home. There she made a new home and enjoyed the friendship of both the residents and the staff. Both she and her family appreciated the expert care, sincere concern and professional attention she received in her home from both the REM staff and her Hospice Nurses. For many years she was a daily fixture at the Lyon County Daytime Activity Center in Marshall where she worked until her retirement in June of 2011. Joanne loved to walk and spent time every good weather day walking and wandering her hometown. Her favorite color was red and she wore it at every chance. She loved to color and collecting crayons. In fact, she had a variety of collections from crayons to golf balls. She took great pleasure in young children; first her nieces and nephews, who knew her as “Jo” and later her great nieces and nephews. She also loved her sisters and their husbands. She always appreciated a visit from family members. Sometimes she would embarrass them with the things she said, but more often, she made them laugh. If Joanne ever met you, she did not forget you – she had a unique and extraordinary memory for names and faces. Joanne died at her home in Marshall on February 23, 2013. She struggled determinedly but lost her life to Parkinson’s disease. She is preceded in death by her parents Wesley and Leona Cuypers; her brother Ronald Cuypers, her sister Maydene Cuypers; brother-in-law Bernie Matthys, and nieces Cheri and Dawn Matthys. Her survivors include her three sisters: Bonnie (Denis) Matthys of Cottonwood and Janet (Richard) Doom of Marshall and Mary Matthys of Apple Valley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
