John DeJager age 90 of Chandler, MN died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Slayton, MN. Services were held 11:00 AM Monday, January 4, 2010 at the Chandler Funeral Association Chapel. Visitation was held at 10:00 AM Monday until time of service at the Chapel in Chandler. A luncheon was served following the service at the Chandler Community Center. Interment will be in the Leota, Community Cemetery in the spring of 2010. The Chandler Funeral Association is handling the arrangements.
John DeJager was born September 10, 1919 to Klaas âKarlâ and Aaltje âAliceâ (Vande Meulen) DeJager on a farm in Leota Township, near Lismore, MN, Nobles County. He was baptized in the Leota Christian Reformed Church and attended country school. As a young man he worked with his family on the farm and as a hired man.
John worked for Wood Manufacturing in Luverne, MN for a short time. In 1972 he moved with his sister, Sarah, to Chandler and he continued to work near Leota on his nephews farm. He enjoyed having coffee with friends, driving around the area in his car looking at the crops and attending sales at local sale barns in the area.
On December 30, 2003 John became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Slayton, MN, where he died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the age of 90.
John is survived by many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and friends.
His parents, one brother, Alfred, and four sisters, Della De Jong, Josephine Prins, Sarah Tweet and Henrietta Pervin, preceded him in death.
