John (Bob) James Roberts was born in Bremerton, WA, on January 21, 1932, to Clyde and Nora (Farell) Roberts. He was baptized into the Catholic faith. His fatherâs naval career caused them to be stationed in various areas on the west coast including Seattle, San Diego and Vancouver, Canada. After WWII, they settled in Sand Diego, CA, where John graduated from St. Augustine High School. He attended San Diego State College before enlisting in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He spent his service aboard an aircraft carrier and on Kwajalein. After his discharge, John worked for several aircraft manufacturers in San Diego. On June 27, 1970, he was married to Margaret Knofczynski at St. Mary Magdeline Catholic Church in San Diego. They moved to Marshall in 1978. He was self-employed. John was an avid reader and could fix anything. In his younger days, he enjoyed dirt biking, hunting, camping, flying model airplanes, fishing, and telling stories of his youth and corny jokes.
John died on Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at his residence in Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Marshall; son, James of East Bethel; brothers-in-law, Clayton (Audrey) Knofczynski, Gordon Knofczynski, Daniel (Jan) Knofczynski and Richard (JoAnn) Knoff; sister-in-law Mary, (Fran) Bradley and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Nora Farrell Roberts; aunts, Molly and Dorothy Farrell; in-laws, Walter and Polly Knofczynski.
