John Gilbert Telste was born November 19, 1950, in Marshall, to Johannes and Agnes (Johnson) Telste. He grew up in Minneota and graduated from Minneota High School in 1968. He achieved his BA Degree in Mathematics from Augsburg and his Masters in Mathematics from Indiana University. In July, 1975, John began his career doing Mathematical Research for the U.S. Navy. John wrote and presented numerous papers pertaining to his work. He lived in Virginia and recently retired in June, 2012. John had plans to do computer research and review professional papers after his retirement. He was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and came to the University of Minnesota Hospital for evaluation for a lung transplant. John died on Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the Little Hospice in Edina.
John was an avid book reader and enjoyed studying languages including Norwegian, German, Russian, and the computer programming. He also enjoyed travel and presenting his papers in various places including Europe. He attended the Presbyterian Church in Sterling, VA.
John is survived by his siblings Allan (and Linda) Telste of Minneota, Bob (and Bobbi) Telste of Alexandria, Beth (and Dennis) Vercruysse of Minneota, nieces and nephews Elaine (and Andy) Steffen, Matthew (and Melea) Telste, James (and Kristin) Telste, Greg (and Colleen) Telste, Michael Telste, Megan Telste, Erin (Chris) Dahlke, Heidi Telste, Kiersten Telste, Robyn (and Brad) Minnehan, Scott Vercruysse and Kevin Vercruysse. He was preceded in death by his parents.
