John A. Vickerman age 84 of Tracy, MN died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at his home near Tracy. Services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Tracy United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, followed by a Masonic service. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Tracy City Cemetery and a luncheon will be served in the church social hall, immediately following the burial. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.
John Asel Vickerman Jr. was born December 21, 1928 to John A. and Myrtle (Reinert) Vickerman in Tracy, MN, Lyon County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended Country School District #16, near his familyâs farm south of Tracy. As a young man he farmed with his father and later served in the Minnesota National Guard.
On November 11, 1957 John married Claire Flory on his parentâs farm where they also made their home. John has lived his whole life on the Vickerman family farm that has been in the family for 135 years. His life was farming and family, and only recently, because of his health, was he not able to continue with the work around the farm.
John was a member of the Tracy Masonic Lodge #155 and a member of the Scottish Rights. He also served for many years as the Shetek Township Supervisor. Besides the fact that farming was his hobby, he is remembered by his family as a man who found a way to use everything he collected on the farm.
On Tuesday, April 2, 2013 John died, surrounded by his loving family, at his home south of Tracy at the age of 84.
John is survived by his wife, Claire Vickerman of Tracy, MN; daughter, Donna (Brian) Flesner of Bixby, OK; four sons, Tim (Deb) Vickerman of Lafayette, IN, Kevin (Michelle) Vickerman of Tracy, MN, Jon Vickerman of Currie, MN and Corey (Kelly Snelling) of Westbrook, MN; eight grandchildren, Nathan and Sam Flesner, Nikki Jost, Taylor, Tammy, Tiffany, and Tasha Vickerman and Ashlee Johnson; one great grandson, Dante Flesner; one brother, Jim (Wava) Vickerman of Tracy, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.
His parents, one grandson, Michael Lee and three sisters, Ella (Basil) Winch, Virginia (Kenneth) Triplett and Patricia (Duane) Flesner preceded him in death.
