Joseph Harold Van Keulen passed away March 10, 2025, at the age of 94 (10 days short of his 95th birthday). Joe lived a very full life.
He was born to Hubert A and Anne (Van Uden) Van Keulen on March 20, 1930. He grew up near Ghent, Minnesota. Joe married his childhood sweetheart, Rosemary (Doom) on August 20, 1953, at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. They made their home on various farms by Ghent until purchasing a farm near Balaton in December of 1970.
They were active members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tracy. Joe served as a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, earning the highest recognition as "Knight of the Year". He enjoyed attending Catholic retreats at Demontreville.
Joe was a farmer with an entrepreneurial spirit, getting involved in Piedmontese cattle, constructing numerous hog facilities, running a spray foam insulation business and doing custom farming.
His interest in horses brought a lot of family enjoyment, including horse shows and trail rides. He loved to travel, whether it was road trips to Alaska, Norsk Hostfest in Minot, cattle shows around the US, fishing in Canada, or their trip to Switzerland, he was always ready to go.
Joe loved spending time with his family and friends, telling stories, playing cards, praying the rosary and watching his family grow!
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary of 71 years; children: Janel (Phil) Krezowski of Helena, MT, Duane (Betty) of Balaton, MN, Dennis (Judie) of Rogers, MN, Dean (Kris) of Amiret, MN, David (Desiree) of Sedalia, CO, Jackie (Louie) VanOverbeke of Marshall, MN, Daryl (Karla) of Davenport, IA, Joy (Jerry) Stanton of Anoka, MN, Don (Gini) of Rochester, MN, and Daren (Corissa) of Minneota, MN; sister Marian O'Neal; 33 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his son Dale, parents, daughter-in-law Helen, siblings: Marge, Betty, Ron, Pat, Danny, Elaine, Eugene, and many in-laws and friends.
Thank You to Avera Morningside staff & hospice staff for all the loving care given to Joe during his final months.
